Alex Alvarez is a General Assignment Reporter for ABC Univision, where she covers the web and pop culture in all their gif.-ridden, meme-churning, celeb(rity cat)-obsessed goodness.
Alex has previously covered the intersection of politics and media as Mediaite.com’s Senior Morning Editor, reported on New York media as the Editor of mediabistro’s FishbowlNY vertical, and written about Latino culture — from stereotypes to celebrities — as the Editor of Guanabee.com. In college, she interned for Playgirl magazine, where she had to read unicorn erotica and interviewed a Russian cage fighter. Her writing has also been featured on Jezebel, Sadie Magazine, and Racialicious. She’s been quoted in SPIN and Bitch magazines (about grunge and body image, respectively), and is keeping those issues forever.
In addition to her online writing, Alex also writes for and performs in two New York-based sketch comedy groups.
She will read absolutely anything having to do with Scientology, Courtney Stodden, Ralph Nader, Honey Boo Boo, and Joan Didion.
