Think you know Miami? Chances are you’ve never seen it like this. Far away from the posh boutique hotels and souvenir shops filled with “I’m in Miami, bitch” t-shirts lies a place that has far more in common with Berlin or Brooklyn than South Beach.
And though tourists flock to the Wynwood Arts District during Art Basel, which takes place in early December every year, one company specializing in Vespa scooter rentals and street art tours is making it fun to visit all year round.
Many regard Wynwood as the largest street art installation in the world, with over 300 works by a range of artists— from world renowned Shepard Fairey and Brazilian artist Nunca, to local graffiti artists. It’s an incredible transformation, considering that ten years ago, this area was filled with abandoned warehouses. Flash forward to 2011, and it’s now a mecca for some of the biggest names in the street art scene, who regularly descend on the city to transform its walls anew.
