Residents of Matamoros are reporting that a Tiger was stolen from a local circus on Tuesday afternoon, while an –unrelated- narco gunfight took place elsewhere in the city, distracting authorities from the alleged circus robbery.
The website, narcoviolencia posted pictures of the gunfight, which ended in a walmart parking lot, with at least four dead according to the site.
News about the tiger robbery emerged on twitter earlier today. However the veracity of these reports has not yet been independently confirmed, so for the moment the Tiger robbery should be considered a rumor and not a fact.
Nevertheless, the very notion that criminals would take advantage of a narco shootout to seize a tiger from a local circus, has sparked dozens of tweets from bemused and bewildered Matamoros residents, who have posted sarcastic jokes and pictures on the hashtag #serobaroneltigre. (they stole the tiger)
Matamoros, which sits across the border from Brownsville Texas, is one of Mexico’s most violent cities, with regular shootings between members of rival drug gangs the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas.
Just last week, the U.S. consulate in Matamoros was temporarily evacuated after a bomb threat was received.
However, the regular news of violence and killings does not appear to have dampened Matamorenses sense of humor.
We will try our best to confirm reports of the missing tiger. But In the meantime, here are some Matamoros tiger jokes.
