It’s been a very busy week in the music world. Word on the street is that Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst has signed onto Cash Money, Shakira has moved over to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation for management, and two exes are back together again — making more than just music.
Here are the week’s most notable releases. Tell us which ones you’re loving/hating on Twitter.
SINGLES
Rihanna and Chris Brown, “Birthday Cake” and “Turn Up the Music”
Whether you’re happy about it or just plain baffled, the Chrianna machine is back and shows no signs of slowing down.
Sie7e, “Tengo Tu Love”
The Puerto Rican singer/songwriter (who spoke to Univision News last week at Premio Lo Nuestro) has brought us a remix of his reggae-tinged love song, “Tengo Tu Love,” from his latest album, Mucha Cosa Buena. The Spanglish track is now available on iTunes and features Taboo.
The 34-year-old Latin Grammy-winner has described his latest collaboration with the Black Eyed Pea as both a dream realized and a learning experience. “It was a spontaneous and fun move together, which grew out of a great friendship,” he said. Both versions are .
Nicki Minaj, “Roman Reloaded”
The genre-shifting rapper debuted her latest single yesterday – and she’s coming hard with it. “Roman Reloaded,” which features Lil Wayne, offers a hard beat with some gunshots thrown in. And (of course) Nicki’s bragging: “Is it me or did I put these rap bitches on the map again? You mad cause I’m at the Grammys with the Vatican,” Nicki raps in the song, a reference to her recent (head-scratching) red carpet appearance at the awards show with a man dressed in a Pope costume. “Roman Reloaded” is from the animated rapper’s sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.
Banda Los Recoditos, “Para Ti Solita”
The large Mexican band remains close to its signature sound with Para Ti Solita, off their forthcoming album of the same name (due out next month). The music video for the track was filmed a few days ago in Mazatlan, Mexico, and is expected to hit the web soon. Listen to the new single here.
ALBUMS
Espinoza Paz, Un Hombre Normal
Regional Mexican singer and newly turned actor Espinoza Paz (who stars in the upcoming film Girl in Progress) released his new album Un Hombre Normal this week. The album features 11 of his hit songs (including “Niña Bien” and “Para No Perderte”), and “Asi o Mas,” with fellow Mexican singer María José. Paz wrote the latter and performs it in Girl in Progress.
Alejandro Sanz, Untitled
The Spanish singer is currently toiling over a new album in the studio and, while there’s no release date yet, this is some of the best news we’ve heard all week! Sanz is teaming up with Grammy-winning producer/composer Julio Reyes Copello for the album, which will be the singer’s first at his new home, Universal Music.
Sol Pereyra, Comunmixta
The Argentinean-born composer/musician’s second album is a mix of pop, rock, and some reggae. And we can’t leave out the multiple instruments Pereyra can play (some of which include the Venezuelan cuatro and ukulele). On March 17, she’ll make her U.S. solo debut at the annual South by Southwest (SXSW) festival. Listen to Pereyra’s title track here.
VIDEOS
Romeo Santos, “All Aboard”
The self-proclaimed “King of Bachata” released his new video for “All Aboard” this week, which has more of a ballad feel than his signature bachata sound. Featured artist Lil Wayne a.k.a. Tunechi’s wardrobe choice is…interesting. Please, style gods, tell us dangling yarn balls won’t catch on as a trend.
