Arizona family in limbo due to state’s immigration laws

By INGRID ROJAS

For the Figueroa family in Arizona, today’s Supreme Court hearing on the constitutionality of immigration law SB 1070 could determine their fate.
Sandra and Carlos Figueroa were arrested in a raid in Arizona in 2009 while their daughter, Kathy saw it on TV back home. Kathy, then only nine years old, gained national attention when she pleaded on a YouTube video for President Obama’s help in saving her parents from deportation.

Since their arrest, their deportation order was suspended but three years later they are still waiting for a court hearing date. The Supreme Court hearings and final decision to be delivered this summer could impact if they get to stay in the U.S. or if their family will be torn apart.
