Loosening Chávez’s grip on Venezuela is no walk in the park for presidential candidate

By MARIANA ATENCIO

“Running against Hugo Chávez is like trying to scream inside a club where he is the DJ,” our local cameraman said before shooting this news piece. Chávez just pumps up the volume those who don’t like it have no choice but to whisper to each other about the noise.

This is the challenge that lies before opposition candidate, Henrique Capriles Radonski, who has five months to convince Venezuelans to throw Chávez out of office. The 39-year-old governor of Miranda state has criss-crossed over half the country to spread his message.

Recently, Univision News accompanied him to Barinas, the state where President Chávez was born. Mariana Atencio gives us a glimpse of the young politician who is taking on one of the most well-known strongmen in the world.
