Nominees were announced this morning for the 33rd Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). We would like to congratulate Univision’s own Maria Elena Salinas and Jorge Ramos, who are both being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The prestigious ceremony will be held on October 1 at New York City’s Lincoln Center and attended by more than 1,000 television and news media industry executives, news and documentary producers, and journalists.
“The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is delighted to honor the outstanding work being done by journalists and documentarians throughout the television industry,” said Malachy Wienges, Chairman, NATAS. “In addition, we are pleased to be honoring Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas, the co-anchors of Univision’s nightly newscast, with our prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. We are happy to highlight their work which represents the very best in news reporting.”
As longtime co-anchors of Univision’s evening newscast Noticiero Univision, Jorge and Maria Elena reach 96 percent of Latinos living here, averaging nearly two million viewers every night.
It’s an unbeatable record – especially considering their longevity.
Since 1988, Ramos and Salinas have produced distinguished coverage of every major news event around the world — from the fall of the Berlin Wall to 9/11, to the Iraq War and Hurricane Katrina.
As if that weren’t enough, they’ve also made history: In 2007, Ramos and Salinas co-hosted the first-ever Democratic and Republican presidential candidate forums in Spanish on Univision.
To Maria Elena and Jorge: we congratulate you on this well deserved honor.
