We got the juice on Ileana’s album. Expect boleros and soul. You’re welcome.

We caught up with Calle 13 yesterday at NYC’s 13th Annual Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC). During our sit-down interview (watch out for more soon), producer Eduardo Cabra aka Visitante, confirmed that their sister Ileana Cabras’s upcoming album is currently being recorded.
A solo album by Calle 13’s female voice (stage name: PG-13), has been in the works for a few years. Ileana, 23, has expressed her love for boleros and counts artists such as La Lupe as inspiration. Eduardo tells us the album will be very special since it will include songs written by their late grandmother, whom they call Mamá.
Recently, Ileana sang Puerto Rico’s national anthem at the Miguel Cotto-Floyd Mayweather fight in Las Vegas, and Argentinean singer Kevin Johansen featured her in his song “Logo.”
Some live recordings of what might be Ileana’s forthcoming material are already floating online (what a voice! Check out René saying at the end “viene pronto” in this video.)
The whole Calle 13 fam will be performing a free LAMC concert tonight in Brooklyn along with Ana Tijoux and Ritmo Machine. We’ll be there and you can watch live through NPR’s live stream.
