News of the disappearance of the private jet carrying Jenni Rivera from Monterrey, Mexico, to the Toluca International Airport right outside Mexico City spread early Sunday morning, with fears of a crash. Now multiple reports confirm the wreckage of the jet has been found, with no survivors.
With the news of Rivera’s passing so fresh, a listen to her latest single “La Misma Gran Señora” is in order. The song, written by Mexican icon Juan Gabriel, is from her upcoming album of the same name, originally set to be released December 11 in the U.S.
The break-up anthem is Rivera at her best - a woman who got up when life kicked her down and gave her fans strength when they needed it most, making them believe that they can accomplish everything they dream of, just as she did when she built an empire that stretched well beyond music.
Fresh off her divorce from baseball player Esteban Loaiza - filed in October citing “irreconcilable differences” - Rivera sings from a place of hurt, then finds the strength within herself to hold her head up high and keep moving. “You, without me, are worth nothing in this world,” she sings. “Leave now and close the door on your way out/Don’t think that without you I’d die/I was the one who gave you status/How are you going to think that for your love I would suffer?”
