WATCH: The Effects of Mexico’s Drug War

Everybody has some sense that the drug war in Mexico has been violent. But do you know just how violent?
Check out this representation, created by Visually, which illustrates the drug war’s massive toll on Mexico. More than 60,000 people have perished due to violence associated with the drug trade, including 67 reporters, 3,500 police officers, and 1,000 children, according to the below clip.
Today, U.S. officials pledged to step up aid to Mexico to fight the drug war, with a new “U.S.-based special operations headquarters to teach Mexican security forces how to hunt drug cartels the same way special operations teams hunt al-Qaida,” according to the Associated Press.
